Four days ago was Botswana’s 51st year of Independence and to celebrate it I’ve created a new photographic album to commemorate the women of Botswana.
This year I wanted to create something that was centered around sex-based violence. This is a very emotional album and I do not want to get into why I felt so compelled to do this so I will leave you with this: According to unwomen.org it is estimated that 35 per cent of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or sexual violence by a non-partner at some point in their lives. However, some national studies show that up to 70 per cent of women have experienced physical and/or sexual violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime. These figures are awful. As someone with such a platform I feel that I need to bring to your attention the heinous reality suffered by women on daily basises. Enough is enough!
I dedicate this album to every single mother, daughter, sister, aunt and grandmother out there. My heart is with you and I urge you to be strong, courageous and resilient.
May the red represent the blood and may the women represent the fight.
Thank you for visiting. Take care and stay blessed. Xx
